The Vortessence | The binding Energy of life
Initially dismissed as a biological trait of the Vortigaunts, as the ability to generate Bio-Electricity, their powers eventually proved stranger than any scientific theory could ever understand nor encompass. What human science once believed to be a powerful nervous or glandular system was, in truth, a compatible conduit tuned not just to internal bodily function, but to a cosmic resonance beyond the physical plane of existence. A Human exploration team eventually encountered and began a dialogue between their curious selfs and the Vortigaunts Elders of a nearby Tribal village- thanks in part of the Vortigaunts quick understanding of the Human languages and their patience, the truth finally took shape. They spoke of the Energy known as the Vortessence: a vast, timeless field of energy that exists behind all things, binding thought, memory and action across their species. To them, it was an essence as real and tangible as breath is to Humanity, yet was proven to be impossible to fully explain in words alone. It is the lifeblood of their origin, communion and return- a song they listen to always. In a sense, their "abilities" that the Vortessence allows them to utilize- whether it be their bolts of energy, to their soothing hum to heal various wounds and fractures, to the ability to power electrical equipment was not "magic" nor "spells" cast nor to be used as weapons, but instead they are expressions, articulation of their connection. Just as a Singer would use their environment and voice to make music, the Vortigaunt touches into the weave of the essence to stir their thoughts and affect reality. The powers may appear physical, but they are never clearly so- A Vortigaunt healer does not "cure" in the same way a Doctor can, they instead realign the broken song and harmony between a subjects body and the Essence, retuning it to the melody of life.
